About Dawn Spurrier

Early in my photography career I was hired to take informal portraits and photographs at corporate events and parties. Documenting people, events, celebrations, and my surroundings through the camera was always enjoyable and it felt natural persuading people to feel comfortable in front of the camera. My love for photographing people, animals, objects, and the environment continues to this day as I strive to document these visions through the camera in a natural and artistic fashion.

A California native, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and while practicing photography informally and for personal enjoyment, I took my second black and white darkroom class in 2003. A few years later, I was presented with the opportunity to study photography and art at California State University, Sacramento, and earned my bachelor's degree in photography.

As I pursued freelance and fine art photography, in 2007 my journey changed and I relocated to the Tijeras and Albuquerque areas of New Mexico. My photography continued to develop and a few years later I joined the Enchanted Lens Camera Club. With the encouragement of mentors, friends, and fellow photographers, I began entering photography competitions, and during the first year of competing locally, I was honored to be presented with a People's Choice award and a First Place cash award. The second year of entering competitions and exhibitions, my work was published in ABQ Arts magazine and Photographer's Forum magazine's Best of Photography 2011 book. See more exhibitions and competitions. While residing in New Mexico, I continued to fine-tune and develop my photographic style. The light, land, people, and unique subject matter gave me the opportunity to mature as a photographer.

Recently, I relocated back home to Northern California, currently in Redwood City, where I continue to pursue my lifelong dream of being a respected photographic artist.
